Well-built furniture is refreshingly low-maintenance. It does not need waxing every weekend or a cupboard full of speciality products. A handful of small habits will keep your cabinetry, wardrobes and counters looking as good as the day they went in.
The weekly wipe
A soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth is all most surfaces ask for. Wipe with the grain, then dry off any moisture. Skip the all-purpose sprays loaded with solvents — over time they can dull a finish or creep into an edge. For kitchen fronts, deal with grease and splatter while it is fresh rather than letting it bake on.
Mind the moisture
Timber and water are lifelong frenemies. Stand hot pots on a trivet, mop up spills quickly, and give the space under the sink a look now and then for slow leaks — a dripping trap is the most common cause of a swollen cabinet base we get called out to.
Let the hardware do its job
- Do not force a soft-close door shut — let the mechanism take over in the last few centimetres.
- If a hinge starts to sag or a drawer runs rough, a small screwdriver adjustment usually sets it right. Ask us and we will talk you through it.
- Keep sliding-door tracks free of dust and grit so the rollers glide.
Little things that add years
Keep direct, harsh sunlight off solid timber where you can, to slow any colour shift. Use felt pads under anything that sits on a shelf and gets dragged around. And once a year, give hinges and runners a quick look — catching a loose screw early saves a bigger repair later.
We are still here after handover
Every commission carries an extended workmanship warranty, and our after-care does not end at installation. If something ever needs adjusting, tightening or refreshing, pick up the phone — looking after what we build is part of the job.
